Class Notes – March 15, 2016 – Medical Management

Instructing: Guro Joe M, Guro Joe C, and Guro Lem

Attending: Alex, Lance, James, Sid, Asim, and Ryan

Notes:

Tonight, we started the class drilling the first 3 counts of transitional drill 1. Next we reviewed our stop-blocks for those moves.  As class continued, we went over some medical material with thought provocation to see what actions the students would do. During this time, we went over some ways to perform our physical assessment on an unconscious person. We had them pair up and perform the assessment on each other (thanks to our student/local EMT Alex for helping with this). Later in class, we discussed that we have to be prepared to deal with any situation in a calm way. Focus on the goal or primary threat until it is decreased or neutralized–secure the area or move the person to a safer location. Then, we can perform the care needed based on the acronym MARCH. M –  Massive bleeding. A – Check airway and clear if necessary. R – Respirations. C – Circulation. H – Head/Hypothermia.

Class Notes – March 8, 2016 – Transitional Drill 1 & Medical Kit’s

Instructing: Guro’s Joe C and Lem

Attending: Sid, Lance, James, Dan, Asim, and Alex

Notes:

Tonight’s class we started with a review of Transitional drill 1. After that we went through the first 3 stop-blocks for Td1. Stop-blocks are used to gain time from the person with the blade. We discussed that they would be using some of these techniques from tonight for the upcoming classes. We talked about what they could carry in there personal med kit. Some of the suggestions from the class for a personal med kit were: tourniquet of some kind, compression gauze, chest seal, gloves, and surgical tape. Next week, we will try running through some common injuries from a knife and how to treat them.

Class Notes – March 1, 2016 – Atienza Kali – Intercepts

Instructing: Guro’s Joe C & Lem

Attending: Brian, Asim, Ryan, James, and Lance

Notes:

Tonight we warmed up with the hourglass footwork with slashes, tip-up and tip-down deflections. Next, we compared short slashes and long slashes. We had them partner up and practice their short slashes. In this exercise, we had their partner hold out their stick and try to retract the stick while the other tried hitting it with short slashes. 2016-03-04-09-30-40

From there, we had them track the forehand anchor point and perform short slashes whenever they saw it in a flow. Finally, we had them partner up and made feeder 1 attack feeder 2 with different angles. Feeder 2 would counter everything with tip-up/tip-down deflections and intercept that forehand long slash when they saw it.

Class Notes – Feb. 23, 2016 – Panuntukan

Instructing: Guro Joe M, Guro Joe C, and Guro Lem

Attendence: Dan, Lance, Alex, and Brent (new perspective student)

Notes:

Tonight’s class we continued with dealing with receiver’s jab and cross and drawing from concealment. Feeder’s side-stepped to the outside of jab and used that time to deploy blade–hopefully before receiver’s cross would connect. Another drill we did to gain another beat, we had the Feeder’s throw a jab (if in left lead) to buy the time to deploy blade. Then tried it in the right lead to deploy blade.
