Class Notes – June 28, 2016 – Counters to Single-leg Takedown and Multiple Attackers

Instructor: Guro’s Joe C. and Lem

Attendance: Brian, Alex, Dan, Lance, Dinno, and Vince

Notes:

Last week we didn’t have class due to the weather knocking out the electricity. Luckily, this week no storms knocked out any power. We continued working on countering the single-leg takedown. We reviewed how to use the wizard to counter the takedown. Then, we practiced using our head and then used a forearm to control distance. From there we tried getting the puter kepala. This technique was a little harder to simulate because of the clinching done with the upper body. Maybe we should try over committing to the takedown in order to get that head control for the puter kepala. Next we drew from concealment after the puter kepala and added another attacker with an angle 1 slash with a long weapon. Countered that attack with a pass to lethal entry. It was a nice class tonight. I think adding another attacker gave a good modifier to the drill.

Class Notes – June 14, 2016 – Counter Single Leg Takedown

Instructing: Guro’s Joe C. and Lem

Attending: Ryan, Lance, Brian, Dan, Dinno, Vince, Justin, and Dan

Notes:

Tonight’s class we started with warming up with transitional drills. Each working on their weakest drill. After getting some reps, we did some lunges for warm-ups and learned how to break fall to a  technical stand up. We then went on to learn how to do a single leg takedown from one of our students, Ryan. After they got some reps doing the takedown, we went over counters. Some counters we tried were wizard, posting the wizard hand on knee to add more leverage or posting on other wrist too. Some of us also tried kicking off the others leg to break free from the single leg. Later, we added drawing from concealment after countering takedown.
