Introduction/definitions

Tuesday’s class continued the theme, situational awareness as it applies to personal safety. The lesson included new vocabulary and exercises to construct relationships between concept and application based on the previous situational awareness definition. The use of vocabulary to construct visual belief models in situational changes may help predict future threats. The evening concluded with the three of nine reverse grip and Mosi introduction of the first three grips from the receiver grip series.

Class Notes – May 3, 2011

In attendance: Jarod, David, Mosi, Brian, Chris, Asim, Ryan, Bryant and Bob.

David and Ryan experimented with 3 of 9 in reverse grip, then reviewed the AK bolo evolution. Meanwhile, Mosi and Asim worked on the AK single sword evolution, getting through the slip deflections. The others reviewed the Sayoc smoking knife templates and began working on the Kayan 10 count palusot drill. A little bit of something for everyone this evening!

Class Notes – April 26, 2011

In attendance: Jarod, David, Tyus, Asim, Ryan, Frank and Bob.

We worked on the Atienza Kali bolo and single sword evolutions. Each pair worked on the first 6 counts of one of the evolutions.

The targeting chain for the AK single sword evolution is as follows:

  1. right side point up deflection to palm up slash
  2. left side point up deflection to palm down hack
  3. left side point down deflection to forehand diagonal hack
  4. right side point down deflection to backhand diagonal hack
  5. retreating point down deflection (left leg forward) to vertical hack to crown
  6. retreating point down deflection (right leg forward) to vertical hack to crown
