june 29, 2006In attendance: Bob Shin (instructing), Paul B., Joe C., Warren D., David D., Maria H., Tom M., and Aaron T.We reviewed the 3 of 10 smoking knife template, then worked on the 2 of 12 smoking knife template. Once everyone was comfortable with the template, we practiced it using both hands. Special points of emphasis included locking two blades together and clearing with one hand while slashing with the other. This was Warren’s and Paul’s last official class with us. Best of luck to them in Buffalo, NY and Philadelphia, PA respectively!

Garage Training – June 24, 2006

In attendance: Bob Shin, Lem T., and David D.Lem and I reviewed the transition drills up to TD 5. We also reviewed knife drill 1 and several vital templates: 3/9 battang tuhon, 3/10 smoking knife, and 2/12 smoking knife.Since David is newer to Sayoc Kali, we reviewed 3/9 left defeats right, 5 count palusot drill, and the 7 count passing drill, all of which David could participate in without a lot of prior experience. We also explored how to defeat reflexive counters (e.g grabbing). During this, a Chinese (non-English speaking) old man wandered into the garage and sort of hung around as we trained. Eventually he wandered off. Weird.

SFS Seminar – June 10, 2006

tuhon felix

We had a great turnout for Tuhon Felix’s seminar … Participants came from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia!

Tuhon Felix covered the feeder and receiver templates of the C template 1. We worked on generating power by practicing the templates on a bag. We also practiced using the receiver template to counter the feeder template. Great material, and a great re-introduction to the Sayoc Fighting System!
