Today’s class focused on projectiles. We began by throwing trainers into pizza boxes, then took turns throwing kicking targets at volunteers. We ended class with a brief free-for-all projectile melee.
In attendance: David, Tyus, Mosi, Brian, Asim, Bryant, Frank, Bob, Tavon, Kashif and Lem.
After practicing the Sayoc salutation, Brian and Lem worked on transition drills while the rest of class continued to work on the AK long blade evolution and AK hourglass footwork.
In attendance: Tyus, Mosi, Brian, Asim, Andrew, Julie, Bryant, Michael, Bob, Aaron, Tavon, Kashif, and prospective student Morgana.
We continued to polish 3 of 9 phase II tapping. Michael and Brian went on to free flow with grappling. At the end of class, we re-introduced AK long blade evolution 1. We were able to cover the first four counts, which includes two retreating point down deflections and two point up deflections. Morgana was introduced to the first few counts of 3 of 9 and cross tapping.
In attendance: Bob, Brian, Ryan, Asim, Kashif, Tavon, Tyus and Mike Q.
We reviewed the Sayoc salutation, then continued to review 3 of 9 phase II tapping and transition drills. We emphasized that phase II tapping should still maintain the structure of “regular” 3 of 9 tapping, otherwise we’d be exchanging a strike for a cut or thrust – not a good trade-off.
In attendance: Bob, Mosi, David, Brian, Asim, Kashif, Jon, Nancy, Ryan, Frank and Bryant.
We continued to work on 3 of 9 phase II tapping, as introduced by David last week. We also spent a few minutes at the end of class working on the formal Sayoc salutation (Chon! Galang! Mano po!).
Class was cancelled last week due to the weather. David Davis ran class this evening and submitted the following notes:
Class attendance: Andrew, Julie, Brian, Tavon, Brian, Kashif, Asim, Bryant, Jon, Nancy and Frank.
For safety purposes, all practitioners received a temporary pair of safety glasses.
Class Goal: The goal of class was to re-familiarize the learner with the definition and purpose of cross tapping (ways to make your body small and less of a target) within the context of flow and focus on the emotional impact(exposing, desensitizing, and habituating) of different reflexes particularly when forcing the learner to tap with the bad hand.
Class Objectives:
- Improve the receiver’s ability to analyze using information gatheredfrom observation and follow up with a preemptive strategy.
- Desensitize the receiver’s fears when grabbed while cross tapping.
- Familiarize the receiver‘s with the feeling of vulnerability in a difficult situation and to give the receiver’s a framework within recall that they can understand how to recovery and what is taking place
