Class Notes – December 1, 2009

In attendance: Joe, David, Mosi, Brian, Tre, Bob, Heather and Mark. We opened class with projectiles. Despite David’s best efforts we didn’t puncture the mats, though I did dent the drywall by accident. We then continued to work on the Kayan 10 Count Palusot Drill, including forward grip variations.

Class Notes – November 3, 2009

In attendance: Joe C. (instructing), Mosi, Aaron, Frank, David, Brian, Mark, Martin and Tre.

Tuesday went well, I reviewed 3 of 9 right with the newer guys while the more expierenced guys reviewed Tuhon Carl’s mass attack stuff from the seminar. Chris said he had a good time at the AK seminar btw. Then we installed 3 of 9 left with the new guys and then had the advanced group demo and partner with the newer guys for right and left together. Once everyone had the idea I explained all the different permutations of mixing that together and that they could be practiced at home without a partner. Then we moved onto left defeats right in 3 move increments. We then reviewed 3 of 9 with tapping and the advanced guys demo’d true left. Upon the blond 5 minute alarm going off we ended with a brief discussion of the potential depth of the drills and their function as a skeleton to hang other techniques on. Mosi then demoed the shock entries off of 3 of 9 and I demoed the running line drill with the skating footwork.

Atienza Kali Seminar – Oct 24, 2009

In attendance: Tuhon Carl and Silak Dianne Atienza, Bob, Miguel, Mosi, Paul, Sam, the other David, Rick V., Mike, Chris, Ervin and Eloy.

Tuhon Carl introduced us to AK mass attack using both long blade and knife. We drilled a variety of isolations, then applied them in two-on-one, three-on-one, and eventually six-on-one. We also reviewed and analyzed footage of real-life mass attack scenarios.

Thanks to all who attended, especially Ervin and Eloy who drove up from Virginia Beach, Paul who allowed us to use his family’s farm, and of course Tuhon Carl and Silak Dianne Atienza!
