Class Notes – June 14, 2007

In attendance: Bob Shin and Lem Tasin (instructing), Roderick B., Joe C., Jonathan H., Keith H., and Chris H. (observer).In preparation for Sama Sama, we reviewed Transition Drills as well as the 5, 7, and 10 Count Palusot Drills.We then reviewed the AK material we covered in the seminar last weekend. Specifically, we worked on the right hand targeting chains for Evo 1 and Evo 2. We also reviewed Evo 1 hourglass footwork and the first several exchanges from Evo 2.Class ended with some free flow.

Atienza Kali Seminar – June 9, 2007

atienza kali gurosJoe C., Derek L., Lem T., and I had a great session with Tuhon Carl and Guros Leo, Josh, Anaam, and Will.

We covered right hand targeting chains from Evo 1 and Evo 2. With Evo 1, we practiced the targeting chains with hourglass footward. We also began to install Evo 2.

At the end of the seminar, we did some light sparring with the guros and Tuhon Carl. Naturally, this was very educational and a lot of fun.

Class Notes – June 7, 2007

In attendance: Bob Shin and Lem Tasin (instructing), Roderick B., Joe C., Maria H., and Jonathan J.Maria and Jonathan reviewed TD 1-2 while Lem and Joe reviewed TD 1-5. As a group, we reviewed AK hourglass footwork, then worked on the AK long blade evolution 1.Joe revealed his custom rig, which includes the option of inverted carry across the back. Nice!

Class Notes – April 19, 2007

In attendance: Guro Lem (instructing), Joe C., Aaron T., and Martin S. (prospective student).

Joe and Aaron reviewed Atienza Kali evolution #1.Then, reviewed TD 1-3 with Joe and Aaron. Also, reviewed Knife Drill #1.Martin worked on 3 of 9 template and learning how to cross tap. Explained about the sayoc rigs and why we wear it.Ended class with zombie attacks (two against one).

Class Notes – March 29, 2007

In attendance: Bob Shin and Lem Tasin (instructing), Joe C., Keith H., Dan H., Jonathan J., and Aaron T.We warmed up with the AK long blade evolution, with particular attention to the two-count techniques. After that, the more advanced students reviewed TD 1-3, then returned to the first third of knife drill 1. Next, we installed the second third of the drill. Just for fun, I introduced some of the skill sets as well.Jonathan and Dan tightened up 3/9 tapping, then installed the 3/10 smoking knife template. The two of them ended class with light stick sparring.
